Whimsical Canton Wedding
– Love is blind and Mona and Ethan best demonstrated that in the early years of their relationship. Ethan and Mona became close friends while online gaming, with Mona living in California and Ethan in Ohio. For over a year, they only knew each other by their character’s names and talked on voice chat programs while they were playing. After 3 years of long chats at night, they decided to meet in person. Their first skype date was soon followed by a meeting in Ohio, which lasted for a month!
Ethan proposed last August at the Cleveland Airport on Mona’s last trip back – the same place they had met in person for the first time. He had 3 dozen roses, a cute sign that he made and he proposed to Mona with his great grandmother’s ring. Of course, she said yes!
Mona and Ethan had an enchanted forest theme mixed with fantasy and fun. Since they met playing World of Warcraft, they wanted to bring in other elements from some of their favorite movies and games. Upon arriving at Gervasi Vineyard, we were met by a sign,”no admittence except of party business” – a replica from Lord of the Rings and a reference to the party in the first book/movie. The Pavilion was tastefully decorated and looked like a woodland forest exploding with purples, blues, bright colors, wildflowers, butterflies and lots of moss. The placecards were black rocks with gold lettering, made by Mona and the wedding favors were sugar cookies decorated to look like 8 different woodland animals, plus some fun cookies for their friends (Totoro, a forest spirit from a Japanese animated movie, and Murlocs – fish people from World of Warcraft).
Mona and her baker spent many hours designing the cake table and desserts, and it was absolutely spectacular! Four (!!!) tables full of woodland tastes and treats, including sweet meringue mushrooms set in columns of “soil” and an array of cupcakes and candies. Everything was incredibly realistic, delicious and surrounded by colorful flowers, tree trunks and moss.
For her look, Mona chose an elegant form fitting gown, accented with fair wings for the ceremony. Her bouquet and her bridesmaids bouquets were full of color and sprinkled with handmade butterflies. Butterflies also adorned their hair and Mona wore a unique crown of flowers and butterflies.
After a very sweet and emotional first look (they didn’t even seem to notice the raindrops!), there was a Ketubah signing ceremony in the Pavilion, followed by an exchanging of vows on the lawn. The handwritten vows were placed into a wedding time capsule box along with a bottle of wine and other meaningful objects – to be opened again at each anniversary. A smashing of the glass, to signify that the nuptials were been satisfactorily completed, along with a kiss finalized the ceremony.
A fun evening of Star Wars lightsabers, motion picture music selections and the Hora dance filled the night. This whimsical Canton wedding was topped off by a stroll in the vineyard, sparklers and a sparkler send off.
Thank you Mona and Ethan for sharing your beautiful day with us! Congratulations!
