Crown Point Ecology Center Wedding
-This cute couple is the best of friends and love to travel and go on road trips. So, Kelly was not suspicious when Mike planned a trip to Jamestown, New York with a few stops along the way. The first stop was at the Lake Erie Bluffs (one of Kelly’s favorite places, where she has tons of childhood memories). After climbing the 50-foot observation tower to the top, Michael got down on one knee and asked Kelly to be his bride. In his hand was a special custom designed ring by Mike with a stunning brilliant cut round solitaire surrounded by an interwoven band of diamonds.
Because Mike and Kelly enjoy the fall weather, football and old-fashioned BBQ’s with friends, an outdoor barn location with casual and fun ambiance was a perfect fit. With a lot of creativity, ingenuity, and help from friends and family, they were able to create a wedding day that reflected their personalities and was a unique representation of all things that they love.
Most of the decor was made by the couple and their family. They were able to make lemons out of lemonade when a tree toppled at their family home. Sections of the tree were wrapped in burlap and lace for the centerpieces. (Kelly is really missing her calling as a wedding planner because I’m still swooning over these cute centerpieces and details that she designed.) Wood pallets were torn apart and reconfigured to create all of the signs and escort card seating chart. The adorable lemonade stand was handmade by the couple as a tribute to Kelly’s Grandma Jo.
All of the food and beverages were hand-picked and had significant meaning for the couple. The lemonade was made using Grandma Jo’s recipe and spiked (if desired) with the couples favorite liquors. The beers are all from some of the Kelly and Mike’s best-loved breweries. And because they love making jam, they made homemade jam favors to share with everyone. The cake was baked by Mike’s cousin and Mike’s mother made homemade kolachy cookies, Kelly’s favorite!
When following up with Michael and Kelly after the wedding, they commented that the best piece of wedding planning advice someone gave them was to make it what you want and don’t get lost in all the details of what you think you’re supposed to do. “We got food we love, we were surrounded by people we loved and every detail was just perfect for us. If we were going to give other couples advice it would be just that, do what is right for you because it’s your day. And don’t stress about the small stuff—the day is filled with people who love you, that’s why everyone is there.”
